Hemerocallis fulva question-mark

Fulvous Daylily, Ditch Lily, Outhouse Lily ‘Red-Yellow Hemerocallis’ Cold hardiness: 3-9 Heat tolerance: 2-11 Climate zones: 1-24, H1, H2

There are more than 80,000 cultivars of daylily. Water, sun and humus loving, these guys need little provocation to hybridize so get out your pollenating paintbrush and have at it!  Each flower lasts just about a day, hence their name. The flowers make good eating too: raw flower buds are deliciously crunchy on their own or in salads; and dried mature flowers, known as "lily threads", are delightfully sour when, at the last minute, tossed into stir fries. However, it causes feline renal failure if your cat eats it!

Red-Yellow Hemerocallis

Pictured: Sun Kissed Peach Daylilies have 2 sets of 3 petal-like structures in each flower. Technically, all 6 of these are 'tepals' since their anatomy is ambiguous, even to the plant biologist. The color in this hybrid fades from yellow in the center to red at the tip of the inner tepals almost like nature has been watercoloring.
