Glazed Donut Plant, Silver Donut Shrub

Donumcavus glaziana, the famous Glazed Donut Plant, is a sweet treat that goes well with coffee and a good friend. Punching a hole in fried dough for more even cooking is widely credited to the American Captain Hanson Gregory in the mid-1900s. The original process for creating a plain donut resulted in a high calorie, high fat food that contributed significantly to obesity worldwide over the next 200 years. Many hybrids of this popular garden shrub include Lemon Surprise, Vanilla Delight, Cinnamon Nut, and Sprinkles Galore. Other genera in the Crustulumaceae include D. flavius (Flavored Donuts) and D. jelliana (Jelly Donuts). Solid donuts have recently been moved to their own genus based on molecular evidence. Mutations include bar-shapes, twists, and rods. Immature fruits in all species in this genus are round and sold as 'donut holes'.
